Chief Executive Officer

As Chief Executive Officer of Community Gatepath®, Sheryl Young oversees one of the largest and oldest nonprofit organizations in San Mateo County.  Gatepath annually serves 6,700 children, adults, seniors, their families, and the professionals that support them, through direct programs, support services, education, and information. She manages a staff of 150 employees and an annual budget of $11 million dollars, which have supported the agency’s dedication to “Turning Disabilities into Possibilities” for over 85 years.

Sheryl has 25 years of managerial experience in operations, finance, and marketing.  She is known for her ability to build innovative and sustainable nonprofit programs, and is a leader in the field of managing boards of directors, social entrepreneurship, and melding for-profit and nonprofit management styles to fuel nonprofit organization effectiveness. Sheryl had the opportunity to share her expertise and collaborate with other professionals in August 2007, when she was selected to participate in Harvard Business School’s Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management program, a distinction shared by only 140 nonprofit executives from around the world.   

Sheryl is a graduate of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business Executive Program for Non-Profit Leaders.  She also earned a Masters of Public Health from the University of California at Berkeley, a Masters Degree in Special Education from Ball State University and a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from Purdue University.
