Hillsborough Auxiliary to Community Gatepath
Cathy Beardsley is President of the Hillsborough Auxiliary to Community Gatepath. She has been an active volunteer in the community and is a Past President of the Coyote Point Museum Auxiliary. She has been a member of the Community Gatepath Auxiliary for 16 years and served on the Auxiliary’s Board numerous times. The Peninsula has always been her home, other than her years at Cal where she earned a B.A. in Social Welfare.
Mendy Boettcher Minjarez, Ph.D.

Mendy Boettcher Minjarez, Ph.D., is a clinical assistant professor in the autism and developmental disabilities clinic division of child and adolescent psychiatry at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. As a psychologist Mendy specializes in assessments, diagnosis and treatment of children with developmental disabilities and their families. Mendy received her bachelor’s degree from Claremont McKenna College, her masters and doctoral degrees from University of California, Santa Barbara, and also completed a psychology internship and a post-doctoral fellowship at Yale Child Study Center.

Elaine Cohen has held leadership positions for her first two years as a member of the Hillsborough Auxiliary. She holds an Ed.D. in Education from University of San Francisco and her professional experience includes teaching, research and administration at all levels of education. Elaine is a leader in numerous community groups, including Notre Dame de Namur University, Mission Hospice of San Mateo County, Mills-Peninsula Hospital Foundation, University of Pennsylvania, Hillsborough Schools Foundation, Phi Delta Kappa Chapter at College of Notre Dame, San Mateo County Medical Auxiliary, AAUW, ABWA and San Francisco Symphony Upper Peninsula League.

Accenture’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Retired
Joel Friedman was President of Accenture’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) organization until his retirement in August 2005. He was responsible for overseeing Accenture’s portfolio of BPO businesses as well as fueling new innovation and growth in BPO. He was a member of Accenture’s Board of Directors until February 2005 and also served on the company’s Executive Committee and Global Leadership Council.

Carole Groom was sworn in to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors on January 6, 2009. Prior to joining the Board of Supervisors she served nine years on the San Mateo City Council, including two terms as Mayor, and on the San Mateo Planning and Public Works Commissions. Her professional experience includes 18 years as a Vice President of Mills-Peninsula Health Services. Carole serves on the Boards of Directors of Community Gatepath, San Mateo Police Activities League, Leadership San Mateo, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Transportation Authority, Blue Ribbon Task Force on Adult Health Coverage Expansion, and is an Advisory Board Member of Palcare.

Monique V. Yohanan, M.D. currently holds the position of Team Physician at Vitas Hospice in Newark, CA. She specializes in Geriatric and Internal Medicine and received her Medical Degree at Brown University School of Medicine as well as her MPH from Johns Hopkins. Monique has been honored with several awards, including the Charles J. Hatem, MD Excellence in Teaching Award, and has had her work published on numerous occasions.

Community Gatepath
Sheryl Young is Chief Executive Officer of Community Gatepath, Sheryl Young oversees one of the largest and oldest nonprofit organizations in San Mateo County. Gatepath annually serves 6,700 children, adults, seniors, their families, and the professionals that support them, through direct programs, support services, education, and information. She manages a staff of 150 employees and an annual budget of $11 million dollars, which have supported the agency’s dedication to “Turning Disabilities into Possibilities” for nearly 90 years.
Sheryl has 25 years of managerial experience in operations, finance, and marketing. She is known for her ability to build innovative and sustainable nonprofit programs, and is a leader in the field of managing boards of directors, social entrepreneurship, and melding for-profit and nonprofit management styles to fuel nonprofit organization effectiveness. Sheryl had the opportunity to share her expertise and collaborate with other professionals in August 2007, when she was selected to participate in Harvard Business School’s Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management program, a distinction shared by only 140 nonprofit executives from around the world.
Sheryl is a graduate of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business Executive Program for Non-Profit Leaders. She also earned a Masters of Public Health from the University of California at Berkeley, a Masters Degree in Special Education from Ball State University and a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from Purdue University.
