The Turtle Island Project
|
Mills-Peninsula Health Center is a long standing client and supporter of Gatepath's Landscape Team. Originally contracted to maintain the Health Center’s grounds, Gatepath just recently completed a couple beautification projects, including the development of a warm and inviting landscaping design for Mills-Peninsula Health Center’s downtown San Mateo location.
Gatepath trainees with disabilities and their job coaches removed old and overgrown ivy banks, planted flowering shrubs and installed verdant green lawn. One of the most significant changes in this project was the birth of “Turtle Island” located on the corner of 2nd Avenue and San Mateo Drive. A shaded grassy knoll with a large bronze turtle and benches surrounded by vibrant flowers fill the space, making it an area that patients and visitors can now enjoy. Turtle Island is one of many landscaping projects that not only benefits the community but provides employment opportunities to Gatepath trainees and helps develop independence and self confidence through beautifying the community.
We invite you to visit Turtle Island on the corner of 2nd Avenue and San Mateo Drive and see what Gatepath is growing this spring! If you know of a corporate site that could use help with their landscaping needs, please contact Gatepath’s Landscape Division at 650-259-8506. |
