Specialist I

Immediate Supervisor: Specialist II
Supervision Exercised: Participants

Summary:

The Specialist I is responsible for assisting in carrying out the daily activities of the program.   

Essential Functions:

  • Support trainees in achieving their goals while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Responsible for executing program plan under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Assist in conducting daily program activities for participants (promote and endorse socialization skills and fine and gross motor skills).
  • Assist participants in all daily personal hygiene program: handwashing, toileting, including changing of clothing due to accidents.
  • Assist participants in daily lunch program.
  • Assist in daily set up and clean up of program activities.
  • Assist in providing input for evaluation reports and individual goal plans for participants.
  • Assist in participants’ integration into the community adhering to program objectives while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Comply with participant rights, Community Gatepath program policies and procedures, and quality assurance standards.
  • Must comply with applicable CARF accreditation standards, Community Care Licensing, CAL-OSHA, etc.
  • As needed, instruction and coordination activities both within the facility or in the community as appropriate to the program design and goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.  

Physical Activity Requirements:

  • Ability to physically respond to physically frail persons - occasionally
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. - occasionally
  • Ability to stand, stoop, and bend – frequently
  • Ability to drive agency vehicles (transporting participants to events, etc.)

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum high school completion required.
  • One (1) year experience working with adults with  developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Positive outlook, enthusiasm, self-motivated and high energy.
  • Ability to function as part of a team.  

Licensing Requirements:

  • Valid California Driver's License
  • CPR Certification/First Aid Training
  • Ability to obtain criminal clearance
  • Ability to meet all licensing requirements.

Training Requirements:

  • Required to complete a minimum of ten (10) hours of training or continuing education as directed and approved by the CEO and the CFO
  • Behavioral management/intervention
  • Seizure disorders
  • Protection and advocacy
  • Health maintenance – general nutrition, personal hygiene and toileting
  • Diversity
  • Confidentiality procedures
  • Abuse reporting
